The Canine Civil Defense League is designed not as a sport, but, as a set standard for civilian home protection and how it pertains to the family pet protector. The challenges are practical and diverse. The focus is Temperament, Control, and Ability to protect. The C.C.D.L focuses on responsible ownership as well as, bond building between dog and handler . This is judged through a practical, but challenging, on and off leash obedience course that includes obstacles, long downs away from handler, position changes away from handler, and command changes (recall to down) there are also, distractions from decoys in bite suits and even up close conversation with decoy/agitator. The personal protection focus on the dogs ability as well as, its desire to protect by using five practical on and off leash scenarios attack on handler with multiple aggressive attackers showing control by outing and engaging when directed as well as were directed by handler. Two off leash sends under gun fire one is in a muzzle proving it is not just driven by equipment but desire to defend. Last, would be command and food refusal were the dog knows his handler and knows who his loyalty belongs to. Though many sports judge the dogs bite and grip the C.C.D.L. dose not rather how the dog engages and the contact he makes remember flesh is not as strong as you think a bite is a bite. The C.C.D.L. also focuses on the threat display how he turns on. When asked he should meet the threat at the end of his leash, challenge the aggressor, then make a display barred teeth, snarl, or bark. This in most cases would change an attackers mind in itself ( "the best bite is no bite" ) though it may not be practical in some canine sports this is far more valuable than a bark and hold for a civilian on the streets. All events are judged by trained and certified judges and agitators and there signatures will appear on score card all must agree on score before title is given. All clubs or pro trainers have the right to schedule a title trial.
